NASA to launch space shuttle in spite of spume crack

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - NASA managers on Monday determined the launch of the space shuttle Discovery will still go ahead despite a crack being found in insulation foam on the exterior fuel tank, a NASA official said.

Discovery is due to lift off from Cape Canaveral in Florida on Tuesday afternoon, after two weather-related holdups during the weekend.

The crack, about 5 inches by about 1/2 inch (12.7 cm by 1 cm), was found through a routine overnight inspection. Falling foam doomed the shuttle Columbia in 2003 when it knocked a hole in the spacecraft's wing through liftoff.
