Magellan Venus Probe Missions
The US Magellan venus probe arrived at its orbit around the planet and started a mission of detailed radar mapping on August 10, 1990. 98% of the surface was mapped with a resolution of about 100 m. After a four-year mission, Magellan, as planned, plunged into the atmosphere on October 11, 1994, and somewhat vaporized; some sections are thought to have hit the planet's surface.
